Several years ago, I watched the original American Horror Story and you can read what I thought about that HERE. Tonight, I sat down and watched American Horror Story: Hotel with the hopes that perhaps it would make me want to see more. In all honesty, I'm still a little underwhelmed by the franchise. Watching Lady Gaga and her fantastic wardrobe doesn't make up for me feeling as if they're not playing quite fair with the story. I'm a little fascinated, but not enough to catch the show while it's on. (I currently don't own a television anyway so it would be hard even if I was gungho about it.)
The two girls who are essentially kidnapped for nefarious purposes (I'm guessing blood bags) are pretty enough, but I don't think that's why they were chosen. I think they were chosen because they were stupid enough to ignore their misgivings and stayed in the hotel. Finding the man in the mattress would have sent me running screaming and I LOVE horror. I can only imagine what must have been running through their heads to have accepted another room in the same hotel. It's the point where you're almost screaming, GET YOUR SHIT AND LEAVE! But no, they decide to stick around. Definitely not the brightest ideas. Though there was a moment when I was absolutely certain one of them was dead. Unfortunately, she didn't die. There are worse happenings than death.
One bright spot, Matt Bomer. I thought he was fantastic in White Collar. Seeing him again as I'm guessing a vampire or some kind of blood driven evil spirit is kinda nice. I hope they don't get rid of him too soon. There was also the homage to Hotel California, which made me smile because that's immediately what I thought of when they said they were doing a season in a hotel.
Will I continue watching? Yeah, intermittently. I'm not going to program it into my DVR or anything, but it might be a good distraction every now and again.

[Television] Sleepy Hollow Returns!
For those who benefit from my TWITTER feed, you know I'm an unabashed Sleepyhead. I've been waiting for the newest season of Sleepy Hollow to come on for what feels like ages. And to start the first episode by seemingly axing a major character (Headless), I'm a little floored. I enjoy that the magnificence of magic is available and that we start with our first monster being non-Western, but I feel like Ichabod Crane with the need to catch up. Abbie's an FBI agent. Ichabod is out searching for his family. Jenny is trying to be gainfully employed. What the hell happened? Of course, a lot can happen in 9 months and no one likes to be stagnant.
Then there's the new big bad, or is she? We don't know yet what is going on Pandora. All we've seen of her so far is that she can unleash demons from her box. However, that doesn't necessarily make her evil. It makes her a problem, but not necessarily evil. I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt. She might have a very good reason for whatever it is she's doing.
The addition of Betsy Ross as a member of Washington's spy ring is interesting. Another strong female character is always welcome. Her flirtation with Ichabod is kinda cute. I'm waiting to see how she's going to factor in over the course of the season. You know this is too good not to get some mileage out of.
I am a week behind, and will probably be at least a couple days behind for the rest of the season. The point is I'm going to be watching, carefully, and more than likely listening to the SleepyCast on a regular basis.

Looking at American Horror Story
I sat down and watched the premiere of "American Horror Story" on FX last night. After all the hype and even the interest I found on the website, I'm a little underwhelmed. It feels rather like they took "The Shining" or "Rose Red" and attempted to make a series. Now, this does not mean I will not continue to watch the series in order to answer the questions cropping up in my brain, but it does mean the questions are the only reason I'm interested in the series. While it is supposedly creepy and shocking, I found it to be neither really.
I don't know if the fact I do not find things all that creepy or shocking says something horrible about me or horrible about the show.
The questions which crop up for me are these:
Why is the house this kind of sinkhole for evil and violence?
What was the inciting incident leading to the other deaths?
Are the next door neighbors (Virginia & Adelaide) still alive? I wonder because of the way the dog reacts to them.
What is the deal with the Maid & the Latex man?
Once these are answered, if they haven't brought up something new and interesting, I will probably quit with this series. I might be a bit premature in my assessment, maybe they will have something worth watching in the next few episodes. Right now, I'm not holding my breath.

Burn Notice Fan Spotlight: Jason Burgos (BurnCast00)
Today is the first Thursday of Burn Notice's hiatus and we are all feeling the first pangs of withdrawal. However, through the absence of new episodes, we fans continue to show our love for the show, the actors, the creator, and the location. To that end, I bring you the Burn Notice Fan Spotlight, a look at the fans of Burn Notice and what they are doing to share their love of the show.
This week, we feature Jason Burgos, the creator of BurnCast00, a podcast specifically geared toward the Burn Notice fans. Jason is a 20 year old, massage therapy student with dreams of moving to Miami. (No, I'm not trying to sell him to you, so do not send me offers. Send them to him.)
So you run a podcast, what made you choose that medium to share your views?
I started watching the show when it began in the Summer of 2007 and loved the premise of it. The show hooked me from the beginning, to say the least. During the second season, I hooked my best buddy and co-host, Josh, into Burn Notice. We were always talking about the happenings of the show, Michael, and how hot Fiona is. Sometime later, in 2009, I wanted to start a podcast after listening to my very first podcast in 2008, Starkville House of El, and really found a love for it. So, I created this podcast about Burn Notice since no one else had which I found strange yet exciting. I could carry the torch, so to speak, on the podwaves for the show. Plus it seemed the best way to express my love for this show its actors, writers, crew, and Miami, my 3rd home.
What's your favorite Michael built gadget?
Wow! Tough question since there are so many. This season, I will say I loved the potato chip satellite can seen in Ep. 3.03 "End Run" where Michael hacks Brennen's phone and gets all the info he needs to hurt him.
Do you find yourself applying any Westen wisdom in your own life? Tell us about it.
Yes, I do actually. A lot of the voice-overs deal with how to take down enemies, build gadgets, or make bombs in Fiona's case, but when he talks about family and friends and how no agent is effective without SOME type of help from somewhere, I apply that to myself and always try to be there for my family and friends, even when they mess up my time with the ladies just like Sam.
If you could make ONE suggestion to Mr. Nix & the writers, what would it be?
Oooh, another tough one. Well, only one right? I would suggest Mr. Nix allow me to interview them. I kid I kid, though that would be nice. I would really suggest diving deeper into Mike and Sam's past to see just how they became such great and loyal pals.
Favorite character and why?
Wow, you really know how to make me think. I love each character and the flavor the actors add to them which make them unique but I will have to say Sam. I know you were expecting Mike, and he is a favorite, but Sam is loyal. No matter what, he will do what it takes to help. He has a heart of gold, or beer, but will risk everything, even his life like we learned at the end of season 1, to help or save Mikey.
How do you pitch the show to those who haven't seen it yet? (Shame on them.)
Well, when I was working at my previous company, I sold it to my friends there, and my cousin, as this show that was like James Bond, Jason Bourne and The Saint with Val Kilmer. I used that a lot. At first, they seemed to just watch it because I recommended it but after the first episode I became their dealer since they fell in love with the show. When this 3rd season started, I had the 1st and 2nd seasons on DVD and literally did not see my DVDs for 2, almost 3 months, because they were getting passed around so much.
Favorite villain.
Carla. She would just blow me away every episode from the 2nd season. I miss her so. From Twitter: @ourladyofashes: Dude, it sounds like you've got a crush on Carla going on there. @BurnCast00: Guilty as charged, more like a crush on Tricia Helfer. ha.
Favorite quote.
Hmm, that's food for thought. "Go easy on the mojitos."-Mike "They always go easy on me."-Sam. Again too many but this is one is classic Burn Notice.
Michael Westen versus Neil Caffery (White Collar), who would win?
Oh, hands down Michael Westen, I mean c'mon a thief versus an ex-counter intelligence agent. As Sam would say, "Easy-peazy."
Anything else you'd like to share with the other fans?
Just to keep showing all the love and support that this show has. It has the best fans out there where we all have something to love about the show and want to share. Kudos to USA and Matt Nix for this awesome show.
Please check us out if you love the show at http://burncast00.podbean.com/, email me (burncast00@gmail.com), or follow me @BurnCast00 or Josh @GreyWardenG on Twitter. We want to apologize to our listeners for the lateness of our podcasts, but real life does happen and we appreciate their patience. Thank You Miss Hurt for this wonderful opportunity! Go Burn Notice!

Top Chef Las Vegas: Episode Four
I am a couple of episodes late in writing about Top Chef Las Vegas. Season 6 is already to episode 4, entitled Vivre Las Vegas, which should automatically bring to mind French something. So of course, the set up is simple. The episode starts with a Quickfire and then moves on to an elimination round.
The Quickfire: Use escargot. Snails are a regular protein in French cooking, unlike here in America where we look at them and turn up their noses on general principle. Jennifer is definitely turning out to be my favorite, though I'm also falling for the brothers. I would love to see those three get to the top to duke it out. Mike I., Jennifer, and Kevin came out on top, with Kevin picking up the win with perhaps one of the most awesome prizes yet, getting a chance to sit and eat with Joel Robuchon (Chef of the Century) during the tasting of his competitors' dishes.
Ashley, Jesse, and Robin were the bottom three and since elimination was up on the block, they got a second round to make an amuse-bouche (a one bite dish) to showcase their talents. Now Ashley and Jesse seem to like the bottom. Jesse has been in the bottom group almost since the beginning of the season. Should she have gone home? Oh yes. She probably should have gone home a lot sooner, but there were others who needed to be weeded out first.
Anyway, Jesse failed, again, and was sent home. Bye bye, Jesse.
The Elimination Round: Take traditional French preparations (protein and sauce), pair them up, and make them spectacular to be served to French greats Joel Robuchon (Chef of the Century), Laurent Tourondel, Jean Joho, and Hubert Keller (Top Chef Masters finalist) as well as the judges and of course Kevin, the Quickfire winner.
Before we start talking food, I have to say that I love how Kevin handled being asked to dish on what was said at the table. Rather than saying anything about anyone, he kept his mouth shut and said nothing at all. No favorites being played there. Kudos Kevin!
On to the food, so the top were the teams of Bryan and Mike I. and Jennifer and Mike V. Really, it is already starting to feel like it is going to be a knock-down drag out between the brothers at the end of this. Bryan walked away with the overall win for the episode, not surprising.
At the bottom were the teams of Ash and Hector as well as Ashley and Mattin. Now, sending Hector home was a major surprise. Personally, I think Ashley should have gone home because she's been in the bottom several times already this season for her cooking. Hector has not had as many missteps, but it just goes to show that there are forces unseen working on the show.
Summation:
Quickfire
Winner: Kevin
Loser: Jesse (ELIMINATED)
Elimination
Winner: Bryan
Loser: Hector

Burn Notice: Yogurt Watch
Burn Notice is getting encore episodes. I am almost giddy. This does not make up for the lack of new episodes by any stretch, but it's like an appetizer, a reminder of why this show rocks completely. Already, the 4th season has been okayed, so 2010 is going to see more antics beyond even the end of the 3rd season we are still waiting for.
Since the show is getting encore episodes, I thought I would take a moment and do a shout out to LizVogel over at Livejournal for her Yogurt Watch. A hardcore fan, she watches each episode for the yogurt which has become a bit of a game for the fans. We know that Michael has a thing for it, so we are eagle-eyed in watching for it and even a little disappointed when the yogurt does not make its expected appearance.
Best Yogurt Moment: Episode 35 'Shot in the Dark' | In response to Michael's pep talk after the case is over, Joey says, "So you're saying I should eat a lot of yogurt?" (Michael's response: "Couldn't hurt.")
Worst Yogurt Moment: Episode 29 'Friends and Family' | Harlan pours beer in his yogurt. *shudders*
Yogurt Watch, Ladies and Gentleman, stop bye, say hi, and let LizVogel know her attention to detail is appreciated.

Chopped Champions: Round One
I totally got sidetracked yesterday, so I didn't get to write up my thoughts on the first round of Chopped Champions.
The Competitors were: James Briscione, Sandy Davis, Natalia Machado, and Michael Carrino.
MY PICK: Natalia Machado
It was interesting, as usual, but I cannot say that I agreed with the decisions of the judges. Overall winner was James Briscione. I didn't see it. Yes, he reached high and tried hard, but I just don't get why he beat out Machado in the last round.
Michael Carrino went out first after a floppy attempt at a cream based soup using crawfish. According to the judges, that soup simply did not showcase the primary protein, the crawfish, all that well. I probably would have sent Machado home in the first round simply because she put dead and sandy crawfish on the plate as a garnish. She might not have known it, but that would just be super gross. Apparently, that was forgiveable enough that she was allowed to go on to the next round.
Sandy Davis went down in round two, accused of playing it a little too safe with his quail dish. The judges felt he should have tried to reach outside of his comfort zone rather than turning out an exceptional dish he was already good at. I can't say that I completely agree considering the problems they felt were in Briscione's dish who tried much harder to turn out something 'creative'. As one of the judges mentioned, creativity doesn't mean a thing if the food is bad. Yet Sandy was let go thanks to playing it safe though his food was good. Maybe I'm just a little biased thanks to Sandy being an old Southern chef and me being from Georgia.
Down to the final round, Dessert, it is Natalia and James. Baby kiwis and saffron (the most expensive spice in the world) in a desert. I have a major issue with weird stuff in dessert, but that may be because I have never really had deserts that do not feature chocolate or ice cream or you know traditional sweet stuff. So my brain did a little bit of a 'WHAT!' at the stuff in the basket. However, I think that Natalia put in a better performance with her baby kiwi rolls.
Unfortunately, the judges didn't see her overall performance as being good enough to beat out James. Well, my first prediction is out.
Next Week: Barbara Sibley, Christopher Nguyen, Paul Viggiano, and Tyler Anderson. Stay up to date at the Chopped website.

Chopped Champions
I have totally gotten caught in Chopped, presented by Food Network. I find myself liking cooking competition shows. I absolutely fell in love with Rick Bayless over the duration of Top Chef Masters and now I’m keeping an eye on Top Chef Las Vegas. Personally, I think Preeti should have gone home sooner, but hey, that is my personal view.
The point of this? Chopped is running its own champions tournament starting tonight at 10pm EST. So, you know what I’ll be watching. I took a look at the website (found here) trying to find out who was up on the chopping block for tonight. No such luck, so no betting before the whole thing starts to see who is going to come out on top, but I am definitely going to be talking about this tomorrow.
See you then.

Burn Notice continues to own my life
So Burn Notice, USA Network’s flagship show about burned spy Michael Westen, continues to own my life. Things keep getting more and more interesting even though they are getting to the end of their third season. After all, one would assume that the need to get back into the spy game wouldn’t take up more than one season, much less three that have managed to not only hold interest by consistently wow those who take the time to sit down and watch it. The characters are perhaps more interesting than the plot itself. The plot is great, but the characters, Michael, Fiona, and Sam make it all worth it. Even Madeline, Michael’s mom, pulls you in as she consistently gets dragged into the workings her son is pulling off as a side character.
I will never forget her discussion at the end of Season Two when she tells Sam to go save her son rather than worrying about her, the job that Michael gave him.
I am almost breathless waiting for the end of Season Three. Season One, they had to save Sam from drug dealers. Season Two, Michael jumps out of a helicopter off the coast of Florida to escape Management. What is it that the writers have in score for us now?
Missed an episode? Check it out on HULU.
